Our Family Tree

Friday, April 8, 2011

Today was definitely bittersweet. We had such an incredible day, but in the end we had to hug our little boy goodbye. However, us heading home means one step closer to HIM coming home.

This morning we walked into the day center just as they were finishing up class. Archie was so happy to see us, especially Ace. They ran and gave each other a big bear hug, jumped up and down and giggled. The connection that these two have already is truly incredible.

After class, we got to head outside to go and be part of a tree planting ceremony. It is a new tradition they started at the orphanage, where when a child is adopted, a tree is planted for the child and his/her new family. It was such a special moment for all of us. All of his buddies and the staff came outside. First, they tied me and Joey together so that we were one. We could each us only one arm and one leg to start digging the hole. This was to show that we could work together. I must say we were pretty good! After we got it started, they untied us and Joey finished digging. Ace and Archie both helped out on every step. Then we put the tree in, and all together we filled the hole back up. And then we got to step back and look at our special little tree, that will grow to be a very big tree!

Next we headed back inside for just a little more time to play. Ace and Archie played more "keep it up" with a balloon...by far their favorite game. Before we knew it, it was time to go. Archie got to walk us out, but he thought he was coming with us. His teacher explained to him that we had to go and he had to stay, but that we would be back to get him very soon. He was sad, but gave us each big, tight hugs. I looked him in the eye and said, "I love you, Archie," hoping he might understand, and he looked right back at me and said, "I lub you, mommy." Although I know he didn't know exactly what that meant, I am certain he had a good idea. He waved to us as we drove away and Ace yelled out the window, "I love you, Archie!!!" over and over.

The three of us are now cuddled up in bed watching a movie, dreading having to be at the airport at 5 AM!

I will leave you as always with some pictures from our day.....

When they saw each other this morning..they ran to hug. Priceless

Day 4

Thursday, April 7, 2011

Today was our last full day of visits with Archie. We cannot believe how fast this week has flown by. Tomorrow is going to be hard--to say the least. But at the same time, we are ready to get home to the rest of our family, friends, and dog. If only we could bring him home with is now.

This morning Joey went by himself early to the orphanage to see their class time. We are really trying to learn as much as we can while we are here so that we can make the transition as easy as possible for him and us. After class, they got to take a long walk together.

Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Ace and I got some much needed rest. We slept until Joey got back at 12:30. We were crashed out. I havent been sleeping much at all here...the combination of the time change, nerves, and excitement just won't allow me to.

At 3 o'clock, we all headed back to the orphanage. It was another little boy's birthday, so they had cake and sang "Happy Birthday" in Bulgarian. Ace just thinks she is part of the group. She has made herself at home and everyone absolutely adores her. I think the different language is really confusing to her. There have been a couple times when a staff member would be talking to a kid, and she would just bust into their conversation and say, "boo boo ba bee ba bee bee boo ba ba"... as if they might understand her then.

After cake, Ace and Archie played with some bubbles we brought. Archie thought it was the greatest thing in the world. Ace tried to teach him how to blow the bubbles. They then played "keep it up" with a balloon. I wish I could have gotten some better pictures of that, they were CRACKING UP and having so much fun, but they were on the move!

Off to try and get some sleep!

Hamming it up on walk with Dad

Singing and dancing together

Cake time!

So kissable...

and cuddly

So much fun!

Lots of Love!

Day Three With Archie!

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

Today was AWESOME. I went by myself a little earlier this morning to the orphanage so that I could watch their morning school hour. It was so great to see. The teacher works the kids very hard and they really pay attention.

After that I just spent the morning playing with him. I got to stay and watch him eat lunch. He is a GOOD eater. He chowed down and was very tidy too! I was SO mad that my camera died before lunch. I cannot believe I forgot to charge it last night. I also got to take him into his bed for nap time. He undressed himself, put his socks in his shoes and set them by his bed, folded his sweatshirt and pants and put them in a stack by his bed, then put on his sleep pants and shirt. I buttoned his shirt and tucked him in.

I then headed back to the hotel to hang out with Joey and Ace. We played and played until it was time to head back for our afternoon visit. All three of us went. Ace and Archie continued to play well together. They crack each other up. We cannot believe how fast time is flying by. Tomorrow is our last day of full visits. On Friday, we just go in the morning, then head back to Sofia for the night because our flight is at 7 AM on Saturday.

Now for the good stuff...

During class time. He was called up to answer some questions.

Afternoon visit....Ace and Archie looking through the photo album. Ace was explaining the pictures to him and Archie really listened to her.

Two happy kids.

Off to bed!

Lots of Love,

Joey got to have some great one-on-one time with Archie this afternoon. Another wonderful visit. Of course, since I wasn't there, there aren't as many pictures..but here are a couple from their afternoon together.

Too cool. Having a pretend conversation with me.

Looking through the talking photo album we brought him to help with his English.
Tomorrow morning I am going to go by myself to the orphanage a little bit early so that I can watch their entire morning class time. In the afternoon, Ace, Joey and I will all go back to visit him.
Again, thank you so much for all of your love, prayers, and support!
We are so grateful!
With Love,

Day Two Morning with Archie

This morning we got up and headed out to see Archie. We had another great morning with him. We got to see them having school time and it was so cute. He was very distracted when we got there, but the teacher wanted him to finish the lesson. He kept looking back at us with his cute little smile. After that we got to take a long walk around the town with Archie and his classmates. It was nice to get out, the weather is perfect!

Ace is really happy when we get to go see Archie. She cheers, "We going to see ARCHIE!!!" In the car the whole way to the orphanage. The hard part has been when it is time to leave. She so badly wants him to come with us. When she starts to sense that we are getting ready to go, she starts telling me, "and Archie is coming with us in the car, mom, and staying with us now. Right mommy?" She is super sad when she finds out that is not the case. Fortunately, there is a toy store right next to our hotel with some inexpensive goodies, and she bounces back pretty quickly as soon as we tell her we will take her there and she can pick something out. I know, great parenting, but I want my girl to be happy while we are here!

She has been so awesome on this trip. She has been having a lot of pretend phone conversations on the hotel phone. Here is the one she is having right now as I type:
"Boyfriend, wanna come dance with me later? I be in my room with all my friends. Here my mom wants to tell you hi. 'Mom, say hi my boyfriend' (holding up the phone). Okay boyfriend just call me when you coming, I be ready. I dont want to talk to you right now. Bye." Haha love this girl!

We have decided it would be easiest for her to just do one trip to the orphanage each day, so Joey is on his way back for the afternoon visit and she and I are hanging out.
Now for pictures from this morning....

Me and my sweet girl at breakfast

Being cool in Daddy's glasses These two really love each other!

All four of us

Silly boys!

Me and my cuddle bugs!

Dancing in the streets!

Holding hands

Ace loves to help. She pushed this sweet baby boy for a long time.

He loves to copy my faces...

Ace got to ride with her new friend!

Dad had to carry them both for a while and Ace wanted to be on the same side as Archie. Joey got a good workout!

I love the difference in their hands. Ace's long skinny fingers, and Archies chubby little hands.

That's all for now!

With Love,
