Haircuts and Heartache

***Over the next few days, I am going to FINALLY post a few blog entries that I started several weeks ago, and just never got around to finishing and posting. Sometimes the act of sitting down and putting these stories, thoughts, and feelings into writing is just too painful, and it is easier to keep it all bottled up. But there are two reasons for this blog: 1) To keep a chronicle of this whole process so that we can one day share it with Archie, and 2) To share with all of my family and friends each step of the process and allow people to encourage us, love us, and pray for us the whole way through. And if I don't share these things, I am not accomplishing either of those! Okay pep talk done. Here we go.......

On Monday (May 16), I got an email from my facilitator, Toni, letting me know that she had seen Archie on her trip to the orphanage with the Chance family, who was picking up their son Joel, and that he was doing great. (She knew how anxious I was for an update). She got to love on him and gave him some hugs and kisses for us.

She also let me know that Archie had a new haircut......that he had given to himself. His caretakers told her that he had given himself a haircut during school time, but they were pleased that he had laid out a blanket and put it underneath him before he began cutting, so that he wouldn't make a mess. She said that they tried to fix it, but that it definitely looked pretty goofy.

Joel's mom, Joy, sent me some pictures....here she is loving on our boy with his new do.....
I think he is thinking, "Oh no, please don't show this to my mom...."

He really chopped it! I was cracking up when I saw the pictures. I think he looks as cute as ever!

The haircut story definitely made me smile. But the next part of Toni's email broke my heart. She told me that Archie was asking where "Mama, Daddy, and Ace" were. They tried to explain to him that it was Joel's turn to go home, but that we would be there soon and it would be his turn. He understood. Then when they were all leaving, Archie walked out to the car with his teacher, so that he could wave goodbye. And that is when he saw Toni's aunt, who was there to help with everything, and she had been waiting outside. When he saw her from a distance, he thought she was me, and he ran towards her screaming, "mama, mama, mama!" Then when he got to her and realized it wasn't me, he was sad and disappointed.

Later I saw a picture of Toni's aunt, and my heart broke even more. She has the exact same haircut as me. Short, brown hair. I could totally see how he thought it was me. Just the thought of him feeling sad and disappointed that I wasn't there tears me apart. I cannot wait to hug him, kiss him and just hold him again.

Please pray that things continue to move quickly and smoothly so that day can be soon!!
Lots of Love!
Lisa

Hi Lisa, my husband and I have been following Archie and donating to his fund for almost 2 years now. For some reason he has had our hearts for such a long time, we even have the ornament reeces rainbow sends out with his picture on it hanging in our kitchen. I am so happy he is has such a loving family-what a blessing!!!! We will continue to pray for all of you on this journey-lots of support from Memphis! Our son is 3 and he also has DS we would love to meet your guy one day! Our blog is www.theculpeppers.com if you ever have a minute!
