This morning we walked into the day center just as they were finishing up class. Archie was so happy to see us, especially Ace. They ran and gave each other a big bear hug, jumped up and down and giggled. The connection that these two have already is truly incredible.
After class, we got to head outside to go and be part of a tree planting ceremony. It is a new tradition they started at the orphanage, where when a child is adopted, a tree is planted for the child and his/her new family. It was such a special moment for all of us. All of his buddies and the staff came outside. First, they tied me and Joey together so that we were one. We could each us only one arm and one leg to start digging the hole. This was to show that we could work together. I must say we were pretty good! After we got it started, they untied us and Joey finished digging. Ace and Archie both helped out on every step. Then we put the tree in, and all together we filled the hole back up. And then we got to step back and look at our special little tree, that will grow to be a very big tree!
Next we headed back inside for just a little more time to play. Ace and Archie played more "keep it up" with a balloon...by far their favorite game. Before we knew it, it was time to go. Archie got to walk us out, but he thought he was coming with us. His teacher explained to him that we had to go and he had to stay, but that we would be back to get him very soon. He was sad, but gave us each big, tight hugs. I looked him in the eye and said, "I love you, Archie," hoping he might understand, and he looked right back at me and said, "I lub you, mommy." Although I know he didn't know exactly what that meant, I am certain he had a good idea. He waved to us as we drove away and Ace yelled out the window, "I love you, Archie!!!" over and over.
The three of us are now cuddled up in bed watching a movie, dreading having to be at the airport at 5 AM!
I will leave you as always with some pictures from our day.....
When they saw each other this morning..they ran to hug. Priceless
